Believe it or not, all designers start out with fine art instruction. Some excel at painting, some sculpting, some pottery. Some remain true to the simple pencil sketches based on stick figure drawings that are transformed into gestures, a quick grasp of a figure's basic form. And of course, some stick to bastardizing typography for fun.

In an effort to become more familiar with several different illustration techniques, I chose a piece of jewelry advertised in a magazine and rendered it in several mediums, including scratchboard and colored pencil.
