A mark is the first impression, the image that remains in the viewer's mind when seen on
a business card or a city bus. Here are marks for an independant yoga instructor, Just
Breathe Yoga, and a home furnishing store, Interior Objects.
Gaia’s Touch is an independent massage therapist
in Brown County, Indiana. The client requested the image of a hand and a
spiral. The hand refers to health as well as massage while the spiral can be
seen as an earth image; Gaia is another name for earth as well as a common term
for earth goddess. Spirals have been used since humans first drew on stone with
ash and references inner being. The images together are therefore timeless.
This mark can be used alone, but maintains more successful branding with the name
in an ancient handwritten typeface.
Just Breathe Yoga exists as an experienced instructor available for studio or private
sessions. The instructor felt her focus was more on the calm and soothing qualities of yoga
as opposed to the more fitness oriented forms. This client intended a wide variety of
uses for her image as her own client base expanded. Brochures, packaging, and a web site
would eventually be created with this image. The image the client chose used the soothing
child's pose as its focus. The alternative mark used a stylized seated figure that
reflected a body's flow of breath. Both images used the name of the company to further
branding and recognition.
Interior Objects retails kitchen and home goods to an audience focusing on housewarming
and wedding gifts. The company originally started with a strong sense of Scandanavian
Design. The first example focuses on the home gift concept while the second relies more
heavily on the solid design theme.
